Proactively addressing housing security in the Chicago area since 1975, NHS Chicago is a champion of racial and economic equity that uplifts communities and creates thriving, mixed-income communities. Since its inception, NHS Chicago has loaned over $685 million in homeowner funds and helped create 7K+ new homeowners in the greater Chicago area.
Critical to its mission was developing a new non-profit website targeting a mixed audience of new and potential homeowners in the Chicago community, as well as philanthropic investors looking for capital investment opportunities. The primary goals were to help educate and support homeowners, speak to investors, and drive donations supporting NHS programs.
The new website was designed to spotlight educational support opportunities for new homeowners and those interested in navigating the mortgage process while also encouraging investment in neighborhood revitalization and community support through donations.
To create NHS’s ambitious and broadly defined website that would speak to diverse audiences, including potential homeowners, investors, lenders, and corporate and private benefactors, Lounge Lizard wanted to design a multi-layered site that was easy to navigate and far more refined and approachable than the previous website.
As a new build on an existing URL, the Lounge Lizard Brandtenders were able to create a fresh and dynamic design aesthetic with an overall improved UX to help users easily find the right resources.
The NHS team strongly felt that ‘housing services’ had the connotation of being a ‘lender of last resort’ and wanted to communicate their values and ideals while sending a message of empowerment for homeowners. Using color and imagery, the design team conveyed the NHS message in a clean, modern, and energetic way.
Our Brandtenders collaborated with the NHS leadership team to create an overall site layout that flowed easily and guided users along the individual storylines that addressed their interests, e.g., education, funding and grants, real estate investment, donations, and homeownership resources.
From a development perspective, the Lounge Lizard teams came together to create a custom site that is mobile responsive, demonstrates high page speeds and rendering, and also benefits from industry-leading SEO, both on and off the page.
Groundbreaking Development & Technology
With corporate and individual donations being a crucial component for NHS’s success, having a well-crafted ‘Donate’ page with a secure donations platform to accept gifts was important. Lounge Lizard’s development team created a custom donation form using a task-specific API in Stripe.
This new donation platform has various giving options, including repeating gifts in various amounts.
The Brandtenders at Lounge Lizard successfully launched NHS Chicago’s new website and provided seamless end-to-end services to their constituency in the greater Chicago area.
Partnering and linking with sister organizations, NHS Realty Services and Neighborhood Lending Services (NLS), NHS’s new website provides middle and lower-income families and investors with a total experience in homeownership, from owning and maintaining a home, obtaining grant money or assistance, or investing in community revitalization.
